[Bolling5] Fw: BOWLING--Do these connect to us??

I did a little bit of searching tonight!    Here is some info on these
folks....unless there is more than 1 Willoughby/Willaby/ Willaba Boling.  I see
from something today that there were several Milton Bollings...as well as Edgar
Bollings.

I'm finally getting back to genealogical research after a year & am going
through the pesky Boling, Bolen, Bolin, whatever. I saw your last posting in
March 2004. You may have read some of my postings as I have the Bolings in Mo.
with names similar to those in Ga. Mine is Willoughby Bolin & he was on the 1800
census of Montgomery Co., NC. I think he perhaps may have stopped in Ga. for a
few years during his western migration as I can't find him on any 1810 census.
He moves at least every 10 yrs. There is a Wilson Merrill Bolin in the same
county in Mo. who I believe is probably a grandson of his. Since there is a
Willoughby Boling in the Ga. area with all those NC Bolings, I'm hoping I can
also learn something through those families.

My Willoughby Bolen was born sometime between 1770 & 1785; probably closer to
1780-1785. The year he was on the Montgomery Co., N.C. census there was also a
Shuble listed in the same age group, which would match the age of the Shuble
Boling on the 1830 Hall Co. census. I'm thinking maybe my Willoughby Bolen could
be an uncle to the one living in Habersham Co., G.

There is also a Shubal Bolin in Owen Co., Ind. who is a son of Harbard Bolin
from Montgomery Co., N.C. They all trace back to Montgomery/Randolph Co., N.C.
Any ideas?

Group 5 Bolling Friends --
So sorry I've been away for such a long time; however, I'm still working.

While searching for my husband's lines in Habersham Co., GA, I ran on to this
below and I believe they are Group 5. Here's why:  My husband's line moved with
and lived near John Bolling and the Ayres [below] while living near the Waxhaws
in SC. In the early part of 1800s, some of them moved on to Habersham
County, Georgia.  We've been traveling by land and can easily see that moving
from the western part of SC and over into Georgia ... THEN north into McMinn
County TN is a much easier route. Traveling from SC directly into TN is almost
impossible because of the rough terraine.  So please consider that these are
quite likely an extended part of Group 5:

Joseph Holcombe - wife: Susanne. Heirs: Samuel, Abraham, Russell, Nancy Lovell,
Elizabeth Hall, Charles S., Sarah House.
Wits: WILLABY BOLING, Jacob Duvall, William Chalmers.

There is a William Bolding/Bolling in Habersham Co., in the early 1800's as
well.  When I locate the citation among my many papers, I'll send it.

If you go to A.D. Smith's file on Rootsweb, you can see how these Ayres
intermarry with the Bollings [descendants of James Bolling d1771, Pittsylvania
Co., VA.]

Mike,
You may be right. I don’t think anyone has been able to link John Bolling Sr of
Little River conclusively to Group 6, and he certainly can’t be a son to
Benjamin Boling and Talitha Hancock of Group 6, but they could be related
somehow. Another nearby family was Charles Boling of Randolph Co., NC. A Y-DNA
testee & descendant of this Charles Boling doesn’t match Group 5 or Group 6, so
that is puzzling.

By the way, Mitchell Bolling who is listed in a 1779 tax list in Randolph, NC
with a John Bolling is obviously an older Mitchell than the one I cited who went
to west TN and Marshall, MS. Maybe an uncle??

There was also a Mitchel Bolen in Halifax Co., VA in 1782 in a personal property
tax list, along with a John Bolin and Sarah Sneed (Sarah was thought to be a
Bolling). Probably a different Mitchell than the one in Randolph, NC in 1779, I
would think.

Diane

Hello:

My name is Mike Moffitt and I just joined the list recently.

I believe there is a good chance that this Mitchell Boling is a son or close
relative of my 7th generation grandfather John Bolin/Bolling, Sr. of the Little
River, Montgomery Co., NC (b. abt 1730, prob. VA; d. abt. 1790, NC).  Ken Poole
has done a lot of research on this Montgomery/Randolph Co., NC family.

My line goes through John's daughter Sarah, b. abt 1767, Montgomery Co., NC who
married John Reed, b. 1764 Deep River, Randolph Co., NC.  Sarah Bolin and John
Reed also ended up in TN in the 1830's -- Rutherford Co. and finally Bedford
Co.

Mitchell's estimated birth date seems to be about right.  My Sarah also had a
brother named David who was a preacher and may have gone to TN.
