I have a John W. Messer.   John H. is probably kin, but I am not sure how.   
Seems like I remember a Solomon Messer there in Pendleton SC [which becomes 
Pickens.]

I have in front of me the LWT of Benjamin Perry of Pickens Co., SC. This will 
was witnessed 5 June 1843 by V. M. Harrison, John H. Messer, and William Jolly.  
The officer recording the will was James H. Dendy.  In this will he talks about 
Choestoo Creek and his daughter, Harriett J. Hunt, wife of James Hunt.  Can 
these be related to your family?
