Ernie,
Yes, we had made note of this John Nicholson before and discussed it briefly, but it has been quite some time ago. When working on the Campbell, TN deeds for Joseph Bowling family, I discovered that a John Nicholson also was in Campbell Co. and witnessed a deed for the Bowlings.
The deeds I have in Joseph Bowling’s notes that John Nicholson appears in:
pg 250-252 - 11 Mar. 1790. Thomas Roberts and Margaret, his wife, of 96 Dist., to Joseph Bowlin for L6, 55 acres in 96 Dist. Wit: James Scott, John Nickelson, Elijah Owen. James Scott made oath 12 Feb. 1791. [Source: Pendleton District, S.C. Deeds, 1790-1806; compiled by Betty Willie]

Deed Book A, December 1806 - May 1810

[Note: John Nickelson was in Pendleton, SC and witnessed the deed when Joseph & Valentine Bowling bought their land in 96 District in 1790. - DJ]
Joel Bowling is the son of Joseph & Valentine. I have more Campbell Co. deeds for Joseph and family posted on the Bolling5 documents page under “transcribed deeds” if you want to look at the rest.

Well, it looks like we might be some sort of double cousins since you're related to the Napiers, too.
Thank you for sending the info below. I had never notice this before...... look at the name Nicholson.
Pendleton Co., SC Deeds 1790--1806
p. 250-252. 11 Mar 1790. Thomas Roberts & Margaret his wife of 96th Dist to Joseph Bowlin for L6 [pounds], 55 acres in 96th Dist. Wit: James Scott, John Nicholson, Elijah Owens. James Scott made oath 12 Feb 1791.
This Joseph Bowlin is the one who married Valentine Haley, d/o David Haley of Pittsylvania and later of Anderson Co., TN. Now look at the Nicholson who married Lincoln Amis the son of John Amis and Katy Bowling below. I wonder if she is the daughter or grandaughter of John Nicholson?

Ernie:
I noticed your reference to William and Christopher "at Thomas Amis' store in Rogersville."
I thought you all might be interested in seeing this Bowling/Amis link :

I'm not sure about the Woodson connection, but they intermarried with the Hughes. Here's John Bullington in Henrico/Goochland with the Hughes. As you all remember the earliest James Bowling of Goochland/Cumberland was somehow connected to these Hughes and to Christopher Clark who loaned him a considerable amounts of money.
"Colonial Wills of Henrico County, Virginia Part Two 1737-1781 with Addenda (revised)," Abstracted and Compiled by Benjamin B. Weisiger, III
Court 7 January 1722
Will of Charles Hudlesey presented by Susanna Hudlesey, his executrix and proved by oath of Elizabeth Bibe and solemn affirmation of Stephen Hughes, a Quaker, two of the witnesses; John Gun and Robert Hughes, security. Roger Carol, Fran's Eppison, Thomas Biby and Peter Baise to appraise estate.
On petition of Robert Hughes (George, son of Ralph Briggs, dec'd, relinquishing his right thereto) he is granted administration of said Ralph Brig's estate; Stephen Hughes and John Webb, security, Robert Carter, John Bullington, Jacob Michaux and Thos. Edwards to appraise the estate.
On another note, I'm surprised that Ann Bowling born July 1749 [married William] had children as late as 1796. Could Nancy Bowling who married Francis Woods be her grandaughter instead? By elimination, wouldn't this William bca 1740 have to the William listed with Christopher on the 1767 tax list in Pittsylvania since James bca 1756 was there with Christopher in Lee Co.., VA 1801-1803 and quite likely the same William who was with Christopher at Thomas Amis' store in Rogersville?
For Carol, the Roberts who connect to Phillip Roberts and Jesse Roberts came from Roberts Cove [wherever that is] and the DNA matches. Perhaps we can find William Bowling lurking around these Roberts earlier.
Your thoughts, please.
Ernie
Ernie, isn't there a Bullington married into the Woodson family somewhere? Seems like there is some controversy about it and and the Archer family involved someway?
