Yvonne --
Good to hear from you and I hop you're holding your own. Yes, Hazael and I
have worked on these "Bearskin" Bowlings for a long time. I posted Jesse
Hodges' will on GenForum years ago. Since then I, too, have been reminded
that Jesse's wife was Elizabeth Collins, as transcribed from the Bible of
James C. Hodges, but no foundation. But recently, I've found something
perhaps we can check. Supposedly, she is mentioned in the will of William
COLLINS, who names Elizabeth Hodges in his will. Pittsylvania Co, VA Wills, Book
11, pp. 124-125.
[I don't have a copy of that will but purportedly this is information from
it]
Mary [Unknown] was born about 1738-42, probably Virginia. She married
about 1755 William Collins. Mary Collins, (She was living in Pittsylvania Co VA
on Nov 9 1799), died 1807 in Wilson Co TN. William Collins born about
1734 in Virginia died 1781 in Pittsylvania Co VA. Children: (1) Joshiah
Collins born May 2 1757 (2) Elisha Collins born Nov 30 1759 (3) Elizabeth
Collins born Aug 28 1760 in Pittsylvania Co VA. She died Jan 8 1842 in McNairy
Co TN. She married Oct 18 1775 in Pittsylvania Co VA, Jesse Hodges. (4)
Faney Collins born Sept 28 1762 married John Ward. (5) Thomas Collins born
Jan 22 1764 married Elizabeth Craddock. See DAR 531306 supplemental for
Mary Collins, 720960 & 730543. (Perhaps, also see 420960 & 722796).
See SAR 138326 supplemental for Mary Collins. Pittsylvania Co VA Court
Records, October Court Oct 15 1782, in court Booklet, page 50 and April 18
1783 page 52. Virginia Rev War claims, to Mary Collins for pasturages for
Public Bearers. This was after the death of her husband, William Collins.
Here's are other interesting citations [ Note that Wilson Vaughan of
Hawkins TN married Levi Bowling's daughter. We don't know who Wilson Vaughan's
parents were] Notice that all of these folks lived on/near Straight Stone
Creek:

Could this line be related to Cindi Tilley's line? She has Collins and her
EKA is William from Pittsylvania.

Dear Ernie and group 5, because of numerous health problems/restrictions,
I am not able to respond to messages as I would like to. I have great
difficulty even reading all of the messages that are posted. But I did want
to tell Ernie that according to my records, Nephany Hodges, born 1781 was
the daughter of Jesse Hodges & ELIZABETH COLLINS. Elizabeth Collins was
born 29 August 1760, Pittsylvania, VA, died 6 Jan 1842 in McNairy, Tennessee
and married Jesse Hodges 11 Oct 1775 in Halifax, Virginia.
