Diane --
Would you consider the John Vaughan mentioned with William Collins
[citation below] the father of Wilson Vaughan or are we in uncharted territories
here with these Vaughans? This John Vaughn would seem to fit the situation --
Vaughan, John. Publication1 May 1780. Location: Pittsylvania
County.Description: 182 acres on the branches of Straight Stone Creek adjoining
Dillard, Hubbard &c. Source: Land Office Grants A, 1779-1780 (v.1 & 2 p.1-685), p.

This was obviously typed into the system by a distracted typist, but I
found it interesting. Wonder if there is a connection in Pittsylvania between
the Reas and the Vaughns?

Ernie,
About Wilson Vaughn you mentioned below - he married Nancy, daughter of
Levi Bowling. Wilson's father is a John Vaughn who died ca 1820 in Hawkins
Co., TN.
I don't believe Phyllis, who descends from Wilson & Nancy, is researching
any longer after suffering through several deaths in her family, but she
sent me the following a couple of years ago:
1. JOHN1 VAUGHAN died 1820 in Hawkins County, Tennessee. He married
JUDITH HOLLAND, daughter of GEORGE HOLLAND and MARY. She was born Abt.
1761 in Virginia.
Notes for JOHN VAUGHAN: His will is found in Hawkins County, Tennessee
dated April 10, 1820.
WILL OF JOHN VAUGHAN (amended transcription)

calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die doth make this my
last Will and Testament, In the first place I give and bequeath unto my
beloved wife Judy Vaughan all my housel ?(household?) furniture and with my ?
horses cattle and hogs, as long as she lives, and then for her to divide all
that? property between Polly Wilson Beniman and Isham a son of my daughter
Clarey? to have his part equal of the three and then is William and Agathe
and Jonathan shall have five shillings each. Whereof I have hereto
subscribed my? hand and caused my seal to be affixed the 10th day of April 1820.
Witness Present John (x) Vaughan (his mark) (seal)
Thomas Hamman Jurat (Vaughan connection)
Howel Brewer (there is a Holland-Brewer connection) Perhaps he was a
witness on behalf of Judy's interests?)
Children of JOHN VAUGHAN and JUDITH HOLLAND and/or unknown wife are:
i. JONATHAN VAUGHN, b. 1800; d. 1850.
ii. AGATHE VAUGHAN.
iii. WILLIAM VAUGHAN, d. 1835.
iv. POLLY2 VAUGHAN.
v. WILSON VAUGHAN.
vi. BENJAMIN VAUGHAN
vii. CLARY VAUGHAN
ISHAM VAUGHAN. son of Clary, deceased, was named in John's Will
I also know they have a DNA project, so not sure if they figured out what
line of Vaughns that they come from.

Yvonne --
Good to hear from you and I hop you're holding your own. Yes, Hazael and I
have worked on these "Bearskin" Bowlings for a long time. I posted Jesse
Hodges' will on GenForum years ago. Since then I, too, have been reminded
that Jesse's wife was Elizabeth Collins, as transcribed from the Bible of
James C. Hodges, but no foundation. But recently, I've found something
perhaps we can check. Supposedly, she is mentioned in the will of William
COLLINS, who names Elizabeth Hodges in his will. Pittsylvania Co, VA Wills, Book
11, pp. 124-125.
[I don't have a copy of that will but purportedly this is information from
it]
Mary [Unknown] was born about 1738-42, probably Virginia. She married
about 1755 William Collins. Mary Collins, (She was living in Pittsylvania Co VA
on Nov 9 1799), died 1807 in Wilson Co TN. William Collins born about
1734 in Virginia died 1781 in Pittsylvania Co VA. Children: (1) Joshiah
Collins born May 2 1757 (2) Elisha Collins born Nov 30 1759 (3) Elizabeth
Collins born Aug 28 1760 in Pittsylvania Co VA. She died Jan 8 1842 in McNairy
Co TN. She married Oct 18 1775 in Pittsylvania Co VA, Jesse Hodges. (4)
Faney Collins born Sept 28 1762 married John Ward. (5) Thomas Collins
born Jan 22 1764 married Elizabeth Craddock. See DAR 531306
supplemental for Mary Collins, 720960 & 730543. (Perhaps, also see 420960 & 722796).
See SAR 138326 supplemental for Mary Collins. Pittsylvania Co VA
