Hi Hazel,
I've got photocopies of the titles. There is a website that you are probably already familiar with that shows Franklin county broken down into townships/ranges, and lists the surnames owning land in them. That website is:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~alfrankl/index.html
It is interesting to visually place where people lived, and their proximity to other families such as the Messers, Petersons and Hills. The Bolding land in Franklin County was in 4 names: Joseph (the majority of it), James, Harrison and William. The land deed to a James Bolding was in 1835 I believe. Could that have been our James?
What was Rev. James Bolding's middle name? So in my tree I've build on Ancestry, I have James Marion Bolding and Anne Pickens as the parents of Andrew P....which is the wrong James I guess?
I just actually found the areas that have the old bible transcription, wills, etc and have been reading them all evening. Somehow I missed them in the site as there is so much too look at. It is good to be able to correct and firm up the tree I've created on Ancestry so that it is as accurate as possible.
Thanks!
Kammy

I bet if you just googled the titles...something would come up where you might could purchase them. I have been surprised by how many old books are now available from on line.

Arvina,
I have 2 books – they are long and not very thick. Both are by Carrie Eldridge. One is titled “An Atlas of Southern Trails to the Mississippi”, and the other one is “An Atlas of Northern Trails Westward from New England.”
I have no idea where you could buy them – I bought them at a genealogy conference a few years ago from a bookseller.

Diane,
Would you send me the information necessary to purchase a book like that? I am interested in obtaining one for myself.

I have a book of pioneer migration trails. It looks like the trail to South Carolina from VA would have been down a road called Upper Road – it went directly through Hillsboro, NC, Salisbury, NC, to Charlotte, NC and finally to Greenville, SC.
Another map of trails from ca 1815 has a trail from Greenville, SC to Asheville, NC, then it strikes out W/NW & it looks like it probably goes through Newfound Gap through the Appalachians to Knoxville, TN. From Knoxville, another trail heads out to the SW of Knoxville & goes to McMinn County (or very close to) on Wagon Road. Wagon Road continues on to the SW to Huntsville, AL.
Thought you McMinn folks might be interested in that.
Diane
