Valerie,
Thanks for telling us your line.
Have you been in contact with the Group 6 researchers? They have a “My Family” site. If you are not a member, I can give them your info and they can then send you an invitation to join the group. Let me know!
Diane

Martin Colston Bolling is the line. I thought he was in group 6 and I don't think there are two Martin C. Bolllings. I was reading some of the charts I found online and that was the confusion when I saw his name also listed in the 5 group. It must have been an error. IF anyone is interested, Martin C. Bolling ended up living in Fayette Co AL after Georgia where he lived, served as Post Master, and died. He and wife Kezziah Bridges Bolling are buried in the local cemetery and I have pictures of their tombstones. We're trying to prove his relationship to his father, Samuel Bolling/Bowling and who the parents of Samuel were. According to a family researcher, the brothers of Martin are Nathaniel, David, Daniel, Jordan, Sanford, William E., and John. Information from Martin's family states that the only son of Martin was named James Samuel Bowling after Martin's father. (I don't know if Martin's father is named Samuel James or James Samuel Bolling/Bowling.)
However, Nathaniel also named his first son, James Sanford Bolling, and after the civil war they also moved to AL, but different county than Martin's. We're trying to locate the parents of Samuel Bolling in order to prove lineage for purposes of joining a historical organization. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Valerie,
Can you tell us what your line is? I apologize if you have told us before. We work on a lot of different lines and it is hard to remember everyone’s.
Martin Colston Boling is Group 6 – he has at least 2 descendants that have tested. They claim he was born ca 1830 & his father is a Samuel Boling. I don’t know of a Martin Colston Boling in Group 5 – where did you see that? Group 6 is unrelated to Group 5.
Hope that helps!

this gets a little confusing because I find Martin Colston Bolling and his brother, Nathaniel Bolling listed in the Group 6 as well as the Group 5. which is which?
Here is what I know with documentation about the Bolling brothers.
Martin was b. in Monroe Co TN in 1830, taught school in 1850 and is on a GA household until he met Kizziah Bridges and then married her. Her father is Ansel or Ancel Bridges and is listed on the 1850 census of Coweta Ga. After their marriage, they moved into Carroll Co GA where they are listed in a household next to Nathaniel Bolling, who is the son of Samuel Bolling, said to be born in 1778, either NfC or Va. Samuel gave a horse to the son of Nathaniel named James S (Sanford) Bolling) who followed his father and family into AL.
The 14 yr. old girl Mariah Fulton is thought to be the dau. of Francis Fulton and a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth from the 1860 census. Francis Fulton followed the Bolling family from TN to GA, to Clay Co AL.
Francis Fulton was a blacksmith and may have married a 2nd wife if his first one died in GA.
Based on land deeds and descriptions the Bolling brothers who moved together and bought together were Nathaniel, Martin C., Daniel, David, and maybe John. After TN, these Bolling members moved into Randolph Co AL and owned land. From AL to Carroll Co, GA, then after the Civil War into AL. Martin c. Bowling ran the post office in Winfield, Fayette Co., AL, Nathaniel, ? AL, John may have stayed in AL , David stayed in GA, and there may have been a Sanford, William E., and Jordan Bolling. Do not have information on them except for relative's family charts. Martin C. named his only son, James Samuel Bolling after his father, so it is not known for sure if the full name of Samuel was James Samuel or Samuel James.
The name Elizabeth on the 1860 census shows that the wife is 12 years younger than Samuel, and so if she is the mother of all the children she married young around 1-18 to have that many children by 1860. Many of the older children were either b. in TN or NC if they married there. Her youngest was 18 years old on the 1860 census or else she is a second wife and his stepmother. One daughter Amanda Bolling m. John Ditmore and shows information online that the mother was called Molly Williams. Since Molly is often a nick name for Mary, her legitimate name could have been Mary Elizabeth Williams. Someone should check on the Williams surname line and marriage record in TN and NC
Anyone who can document their ancestry through Martin Colston Bolling, can trace their lineage to Richard Pace of VA and his establishment of Pace's Paines. This would be the connection through the Ansel Bridges line and his connection to the Solomon Strickland family. Any female with this line is elgible to join the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. I'm still looking for proof for the parents of 1778 Samuel
Bolling and his other sons, John, William E., Sanford and Jordan. (It is quite possible that the name of Martin Colston Bolling came from a female ancestor whose parents were Martin Colston or a Martin or a Colston.. That is an unusual name and does not fit with the other naming patterns in the family. That's all I have at this time, but am eager to find more on the missing sons and daughters of Samuel and elizabeth Bolling. Valerie
