I live in Jennings County, Indiana.  I went to school in Washington County, Indiana.  Several different schools, Monroe, Haleysburg, and Salem High.  My bus driver was a Bowling.  His children were my age.

How far are you from Owen County ?  [I think that is where anaother Larkin Bolling ....ones from Randolph Co.  NC went.]  It might be Morgan Co.  I am away from home and will try to send it when I get back home.    You might be able to bring something up about them by googling Harbard Bolling/Boling.

I live in Southern Indiana.  If.........you were very specific about what to search for, called and found where I should go ahead of time, I would be willing to attempt to find the records for you.  I am getting to where I am not as sharp in my thinking as I used to be is why I would ask that of you.  I’ve been to Salem(Washington County) before.  I would also go to Floyd County if necessary.  I would not charge anything either.  Also, if any of you knew where an ancestor lived earlier, I would go and take a picture of the place, cemetery, tombstone, etc.

We are talking about Indiana in the 1860’s & 1870’s, Hazael, not North Carolina.

North Carolina does have Bastardy bonds.  One Randolph Bolling of North Carolina [Randolph or Montgomery Co.'s had several bastard children.

Diane,

I don’t think they had bastardy bonds in Indiana in the 1860’s & 1870’s. You will probably have to look at the county court orders & minutes or at lawsuits in the circuit or civil court. Any lawsuits would probably be indexed. You can always order microfilm from Salt Lake at your local Family History center for that time period. I have done a ton of research via microfilm rather than travel to far off places! They can often advise you which records might have the info you are seeking.

Thanks Diane.  I wanted to be sure I was on the right track.  You guys have so much back and forth on the Bollings I get confused!  I have more than 120 messages to wade through and sort.  I do need to check the bastardy bonds--I am in North Carolina so doing hands on research in Indiana is difficult.  It is hard enough to do the North Carolina research with the burned and missing records.  BUT every time I am close to stopping I find a new thread.  Like I did withmy response for information on Larkin.  Guess I will keep at it. I did find the great great grandfather of Nancy's husband--finally confirmed him in Randolph County NC.

Hi Diane2,

Yes, this is the John Bolin of Sullivan Co., TN that is the father of your Larkin. Wasn’t Nancy Bolin, Susan Bolin’s daughter by an unknown father, your ancestor? (Susan being the dau. of Larkin)

You might have to check the county court records in hopes that the father is named in a suit for child support. I identified the father of a baby born out of wedlock in my line that way. That case was in Monroe County, Indiana. The father of the unwed mother sued for support for his grandchild, as mother & child were living in his household.

Since Larkin lived in Washington and Floyd counties, IN, you would probably have to check both counties.

I have been reading and trying to keep up with all the research.  Can I ask if the John of Sullivan Co. Tn. married to Elizabeth ? is the father or brother of Larkin born abt. 1801 in Sullivan County?   I am still trying to find the father of Larkin's granddaughter born in Indiana.
