All,
I found some interesting stuff on Sullivan County on a Hopkins mail list – several connections to Bolins and also a Patrick, VA connection. Glovers & Hopkins both connect with the Bolins in Sullivan County. Several Odells lived near to Callaway in 1840.:

the Chancery Court of SCTN, to Samuel Stone, of SCTN, several tax deliquest
properties including 25 acres belonging to Richard Hopkins, Dec'd.. Ack. 21
October 1880, Reg. 22 October 1880 @ 4 pm.
In the periodical "Holston Past Finder" Vol. 50, page 7, I learned Richard
Hopkins had a land grant (#785) for 200 acres on Holston River, which was
not recorded at the Register of Deeds Office. I will try to track down a
copy. Here Richard Hopkins operated "the first blacksmith shop and grist
mill on Hatcher's Creek. He finnished and dressed his own mill stone,
leaving one unfinished as the Civil War had started" according to Hazel W.
Morrell of Bluff City, Tn.
I thought his being a miller was interesting as his father-in-law, Obediah
Burnett, was a miller in Patrick County, Virginia.
In the 1837 Tax list for SCTN, Richard Hopkins was listed with a property
value of $202.00.

Tradition holds that Richard Hopkins died in 1864 at age 84. I could not
find Elizabth Hopkins listed in the 1870 census either.

Makes me wonder if both the Hugh Boling and Susan Boling who both married Hopkins are grandchildren of John of Sullivan, and possible children of Callaway who were married before the 1850 census.

I think Callaway is another son of John Bolin’s, but I don’t know for sure. Callaway was born in 1808 in Tennessee and married Susan Carrier, dau. of Jonathan Carrier and Abigail Glover. There is a Glover connection to some of the Sullivan County Bolins. Callaway and Susan had a bunch of children. The last I find of Callaway is in the 1850 & 1860 census records in Sullivan County. His widow Susan is head of household in 1870:

Hazael, I have never seen a James Bolin in the records of Sullivan County. If you happen to have a citation of such, please share it when you get home!
I have this index citation for Callaway, but not the actual document, so I don’t know if there are other names in the deed for witnesses or whatever, but it seems awfully late to have anything to do with your James:

I wonder where Calloway Bolin fits into these folks. He is just the next page in the census...1840 I think....and it is his deed that a james Bowlin signed I am thinking top of my head this morning.

Yes, Larkin who was born ca 1800 and his wife Sarah and their children left Sullivan County after the 1840 census and went first to Floyd Co., IN., then Washington Co., IN, then back to Floyd. Here are his census records:

The child Nancy is Diane2’s ancestor. There were Group 6 Bolings as well as Group 5 Bolins in Washington Co., IN. Remember that James Luke Bowling who married Sarah Nowling from Patrick, VA also were in Washington County. From census records, it would seem that Larkin lived the majority of the time in Floyd County.
By the way, this Larkin’s son James died in the Civil War & is buried in the Knoxville Tennessee National Cemetery. James married Mary Ann Critchlow and they had a son named John Larkin Bolin.

It is the yellow underlined statements that have me confused. John of Sullivan Co. Tenn. the father of Diane2's Larkin is group 5....but you say Washington Co. Indianna.

Yes, this is the John Bolin of Sullivan Co., TN that is the father of your Larkin. Wasn’t Nancy Bolin, Susan Bolin’s daughter by an unknown father, your ancestor? (Susan being the dau. of Larkin)
You might have to check the county court records in hopes that the father is named in a suit for child support. I identified the father of a baby born out of wedlock in my line that way. That case was in Monroe County, Indiana. The father of the unwed mother sued for support for his grandchild, as mother & child were living in his household.
Since Larkin lived in Washington and Floyd counties, IN, you would probably have to check both counties.
